A succulent from a genuinely fog-dependent coastal desert habitat is going to have meaningfully different atmospheric moisture needs compared to one from a hot, dry, inland rocky habitat with essentially no ambient humidity at all, even if both plants tolerate similarly dry soil conditions.

This kind of species-specific research pays off considerably more with rare, sensitive plants than with common, forgiving ones, since the margin between adequate and inadequate humidity tends to be much narrower for a plant that’s spent countless generations adapting to one very particular set of atmospheric conditions.
